Questions shop owners ask

The ones we hear most. If yours isn’t here, email support@goshelf.app.

Getting started

Do I need special hardware?

No. Any laptop, desktop or tablet with a browser. USB and Bluetooth barcode scanners work out of the box; receipts print to any printer, or go to the customer’s phone.

Does goshelf process card payments?

No. goshelf records each sale and how the customer paid. Card payments go through the shop’s own card machine and bank, as they do today. goshelf never handles, holds or transfers your customers’ money.

How long does setup take?

An afternoon for most shops. Import your products from a spreadsheet, do one stock count, plug in a scanner, open a shift.

Can I try it before paying?

Yes — 14 days free, no card needed. Pick a plan at any point in the trial or at the end of it.

Can I move from another till system?

Export your products from the old system as CSV and import them. Sales history doesn’t transfer; your ledger starts clean from your opening count.

Selling

Does it work without internet?

goshelf runs in the browser and needs a connection today. An offline mode that keeps selling through an outage and syncs when you reconnect is in development for Pro and Business plans.

Can two tills run at once?

Yes, on Pro (3 tills) and Business (unlimited). Each till has its own shift and its own invoice numbers.

Can a cashier give a discount?

Only up to the limit you set in Settings. Anything over it needs a manager, and the till says so rather than letting it through.

How do refunds work?

Open the sale from Sales history, choose the lines coming back, and whether they go back to stock or are written off as damaged. The refund is paid out in cash, to card, or as store credit on the customer’s account.

Stock and money

How is profit calculated?

Every sale line carries the cost of what left the shelf at that moment — a weighted average of what you paid for it. Profit is sales minus that cost, minus expenses. Not an estimate.

Why can’t I just edit a stock number?

Because then nobody could explain it. goshelf records every movement — bought, sold, returned, counted, damaged — and the stock figure is the sum. To correct a number, do a count or an adjustment with a reason.

How does tax work in my country?

You decide. Turn tax on or off, choose whether prices include it, apply it per line or per invoice, and set your own rates and labels.

Can my accountant use it?

Yes. Profit & loss, stock valuation, tax summary and a year-end statement export to CSV or PDF, and a viewer login lets them pull what they need without touching anything.

Plans and billing

What happens if I stop paying?

Your store goes read-only after a short grace period. Nothing is deleted. You can export everything for 90 days, and resuming the subscription restores full access instantly.

Can I change plan?

Any time, from Settings → Subscription. Upgrades apply immediately; downgrades take effect at the end of the current period.

Is my card charged in my currency?

Prices are in US dollars. Billed securely by our payment provider. Local taxes may apply at checkout.

Where is my data stored?

In a PostgreSQL database on secure cloud infrastructure, encrypted and backed up daily. Each store’s data is isolated at the database level — no store can see another’s.
